Coronavirus: Karl Stefanovic offers businesses free plugs on Instagram

Small business owners are feeling the financial pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic after 'non-essential' services were forced to shut down on Monday.

And Karl Stefanovic has offered to promote small Australian businesses for 신상 free on Instagram, where he has 250,000 followers.

The 45-year-old Today show host announced his marketing opportunity on Tuesday.

'If you or your business need a free plug to keep going during these difficult times, if you make stuff at home and want a plug, if you have skills and want to use them, then my Instagram is yours,' he wrote.

Karl also announced the offer on the Today show and played an advertisement from gym owner Nissa Ramm, who is live streaming workouts online after her business was forced to close.

The advertisement would have reached an audience of around 200,000 people.

'We don't need to rely on the government for everything. We can get out there and help,' Karl said on air.

'If you've got a profile anywhere, on Instagram or social media, then use it for the good of your local people in your village and local businesses. We have to try and support them.'

While non-essential businesses have shut down, other businesses such as supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol stations, convenience stores and bottle shops remain open.

Takeaway and delivery food is still permitted, but many cafés and restaurants have shut down as people avoid them due to social distancing. 

As of Tuesday morning, there are 1,866 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Australia and seven deaths.
