Standardized tests are used to measure students' abilities and comprehension of knowledge, and some carry considerable weight in the college application process. But while the content of these tests routinely undergo certain changes every few years, until recently, they have been delivered in the traditional pencil-and-paper format. In the last several years, however, some standardized tests have started to switch to a digital format, causing some new stressors for test-takers.

If your child is planning on taking one of these tests in the near future, consider how the following can help better prepare students for the new world of digital test-taking:

1. Computer literacy and skills
Although most young people have spent the majority of their lives surrounded by technology, this doesn't guarantee that they are ready for digital test-taking. As tests continue to move to a digital format, the tasks once completed through pen and paper are now required to be done electronically.

Find out what computer skills are required for each test, which can easily be obtained beforehand from the school or test administrator, and review. Whether is is drag-and-drop or highlighting, make sure your student knows how to do it.

2. Typing speed
For the most part, standardized tests are broken down into a number of different sections, each of which is conducted under time constraints. In most cases, test-takers will be given a five- or one-minute warning before the system moves on to the next question or section, which makes typing speed crucial for success.

If typing speed is an issue for your child, consider practicing with him or her in the weeks leading up to the test. There are several programs available online for free that can evaluate his or her typing abilities and speed, but this can also be done with a stopwatch and word processing program.

3. Time management
Most standardized tests are broken into sections and conducted under certain time constraints. This means that if ever time management skills were needed, it's going to be during a standardized test. For example, if your student struggles with write my essay for me cheap, math homework or verbal reasoning, then he or she will need every second of that time limit in order to complete the section.

If there are any concerns over time management, this can easily be tested by running through a few practice tests to find out where your student needs to develop better skills. In fact, practice tests can also show you which areas are strengths for your student and where your student should improve before he or she takes the actual test.
